Chelsea kicked off its three-match U.S. tour with a solid 2-1 victory over Mexican giants Club America in a game that was played in Las Vegas.

A sensational goal by Mason Mount from outside the box proved to be the winner seven minutes from time.

Timo Werner gave Chelsea a lead near the hour mark, but a Reece James back pass that beat his own goalkeeper gifted Club America the momentary equalizer minutes later.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel started an attacking front line comprised of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Kai Havertz,

and Hakim Ziyech, but they couldn't produce a goal although Ziyech was a catalyst throughout.

Right wingback Kenedy unleashed a curler and Thiago Silva sent a header on goal, but in both instances the Club America goalkeeper came up with the stop in a scoreless first half.

With a brand new lineup on the field after the break, it was Werner who found the breakthrough goal in the 55th minute, putting home the rebound after his initial shot was saved.

But five minutes later Chelsea goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli was not expecting the backpass from teammate Reece James, and it went past him to make it 1-1.

American Christian Pulisic later had a clear look on a wide open header that missed the target, but Mount made up for it with his stunning strike.
